Every private school has a mission statement, which is something that companies, educational institutions, and corporate institutions all use  to state what they do and why they do it.  A strong mission statement is brief, easy to remember, and addresses the services or products that the institution provides to its target audience. Many schools struggle with creating a strong mission statement  and look for guidance on how to best prepare this important message.  Heres what you need to know about perfecting your schools mission statement, which can help you  develop a strong marketing  message that your audience will remember. What is a Mission Statement? Every private school has a mission statement,  but not every schools community knows it and lives it. In fact, many people arent even sure what the mission statement should be for their school. A mission statement should be a message that states what your school does. It should not be a lengthy description of your schools makeup, demographics, student body, and facilities. How long should the Mission Statement be from my school? You may find differing opinions, but most will agree that your mission statement should be short. Some say a paragraph should be the absolute maximum length of the message, but if you truly want people to remember and embrace your schools mission, just a sentence or two is ideal. What should my schools Mission Statement say? If you had 10 seconds to say what your school does, what would you say? This is a great exercise to do if youre creating or evaluating your mission statement.  It needs to be specific to your school, and it needs to clearly illustrate what youre doing as an educational institution, your purpose. Why do you exist?   This does not mean outline every little detail of your schools plan of action, strategic plan, or accreditation self-study. This simply means you need to tell your greater community what your main objectives are. However, your mission statement should not be so general that the reader doesnt even know what sort of business you are in. As an educational institution, something about your mission should relate to education. While its important to think about what your mission statement means to your school, its equally important to understand that as private schools, to some extent we all have the same mission: to educate children. So use your mission statement to take this notion a step further and find out how you differentiate from your peers and competitors.   How long should a mission statement last? You should aim to develop a timeless mission, as in it is a message that can stand the test of time - decades or longer. That doesnt mean that your mission statement can never change; if there are significant organizational changes, a new mission statement could be most appropriate. But, you should aim to develop a general statement about the philosophy that doesnt tie your school to a time-sensitive program or educational trend. An example of a programmatic mission that works well would be a schools mission statement that describes a commitment to the Montessori Method, a tried and tested educational model. This is an acceptable specification for a school. An example of a programmatic mission that is not ideal would be a school that develops a mission statement that ties the school to 21st-century teaching methods that were the trend in the early 2000s. This mission statement dates the schools practice to the turn of the 21st century, and teaching methods have changed already since the year 2000 and will continue to do so.   Who should develop a mission statement? A committee should be formed to create and/or evaluate your mission statement that should be comprised of people who know the school well today, and are familiar with its strategic plans for the future, and understand the elements of a strong mission statement. What is  often disappointing is that many  committees who decide what a schools mission statement should dont include branding and messaging experts who can provide  proper guidance to ensure that the school is represented well.    How do I evaluate my schools mission statement? Does it accurately describe your school?Could it accurately describe your school 10 years from now?Is it simple and easy to understand?Does your community, including faculty and staff, students, and parents, know the mission statement by heart?   If you answer no to any of these questions, you may need to evaluate the strength of your mission statement. Why is there is a higher percentage of obesity in children than adults? Do school lunches lead to high childhood obesity? Why are three out every child in America suffering from obesity? These are the questions that come in mind when people talk about childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is defined as a sober medical disorder that affects youngsters at a young age and it arises when a child is exceeding his or her normal weight. The obesity in adolescents is increasing because of nonexistence of physical activity, school lunches offering high calorie food to students, food advertising promoting unhealthy food, and government providing additional money to school for school meal. An increase in childhood obesity is bad because it can be harmful to one’s health and it can lead to immediate and long-term effects on health. Overweight and obesity are the results of high amount of calorie intake in a human body than it is supposed to burn as energy. Considering the intake of calories by teenagers in this generation, a person should not be shocked by the statistics on obesity today. Obesity in childhood is also increasing because children between ages eight and 18 spend most of their time watching television, surfing the internet, texting, playing x-box or play station instead of participating in outdoor activities that include going on a walk, playing sports, and working out to stay fit and healthy. Boyatzis (2008) suggests that a leader putting high emphasis on any one of the dimension may hinder the growth of the organization. On assessing Larry Pages leadership behavior it was found that the leadership style adopted by Page falls in the middle of the road grid of the leadership grid. Hence, it can be suitably said that Page manages both production and people simultaneously however the score is low for both the dimensions suggesting that for future growth prospective Page has to develop his leadership behavior. According to Boyatzis (2008) the presence of the five factors namely openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism has an individual to become a strong leader. The personality trait analysis of Page shows that he lacks one of the factors in the OCEAN strategy. Page is regarded to be introvert in nature lacking the ability to socialize with the team members and employees. However, the presence of high degree of agreeableness and openness to experience has made Page successful in his Endeavour. 6. Alternative recommendation for leadership styles Evaluation of the current leadership styles and personality traits of Larry Page shows that for further grooming of the employees and secure the future of Google from any upcoming competition, Page can adopt some of the following recommended alternatives. Change in leadership style: Charismatic style of Page is making the employees over dependent. However keeping the traits of open communication and innovativeness, if Page adopts the participative leadership style then he will be able in successfully generating more leaders within Google. Moreover, charismatic leadership may give rise to narcissism within the leader and if the narcissism not used in a productive way then the idea and vision of the leader may remain unfulfilled. Hence, Page should effectively adopt the situational and adaptive traits within his leadership style. Google being an internet company, Page will have to change his policies frequently with the changing situations. Adoption of a charismatic leadership style will make him responsible for any future mishaps. However, adoption of participative style will help Page to share the risks along with the team members. Improvements in the leadership behavior: At present, the leadership behavior of Page is in the middle of the road grid of the leadership grid. For effective management of both production and employees Page should adopt the role of Team management within the grid. Adoption of this leadership style will help Page to effectively control the employees and get maximum possible productivity from them. Changes in motivational focus: Page has concentrated highly on the non-monetary benefits and employee perks for the purpose of motivation. However, the Glass doors pay scale structure shows that employees in Google are paid less than many other Silicon Valley firms. Hence, Page should also concentrate on the monetary structure within the organization if he wishes to retain the exclusive engineers in the future. Profit optimization: Page is focused more on the product innovation and invention rather on the revenue of the organization. An ideal leader needs to focus on productivity as well as the financial stability of the organization. Pages disinterest in the financial management has resulted in revenue drop of Google. Thus, page should adopt an overall management strategy in order to secure the future of Google. 7. Conclusion The report shows the pros and cons of the different leadership styles in the practical implications made by one of the most successful CEO of the 21st century Larry Page. From the analysis of the skills and styles adopted by Page it can be concluded that in the present situations although Google is facing certain problems still Page has been able to effectively retain the employees and increase their productivity.
